Little Dipper

Little Dipper is painted and ready for a preview!! Here is his backside with the Little Dipper constellation painted on his cape and you can also see how pitted his head is from the asteroids and space debris crashing into it. I imagine he has had a headache or two from those collisions, but he still seems able to grin through it all.

Here is the little guy in full figure below. Not only does his cape bear the constellation, but so does his hat and bucket.

You may remember that this little guy has a problem with ...uh, "borrowing" candy from others (I think some people call it theft or stealing, but he prefers the word borrow). You see, Little Dipper is particular about his candy and treat selections, so he lets other children go door to door and do all of the work, and then when they are away from their evening spoils, he sorts through their containers taking out his favorites. Since he is small in stature and dips into the candy of others, he was given the nickname, Little Dipper...that is when he decided to have the heavenly constellation sewn or painted onto his belongings.

He loves his fellow "stars", so he wears them on his boots, bucket, cape (look at that collar), vest and hat. It sort of makes it easy for him to coordinate anything he wears since it all has a similar motif.

He has a very painterly complexion that you can see in the photo above.

Hope you like the little guy...because he really LOVES your candy!!

Have a great day and happy creating!
Laurie

AWESOME! I love these photos. I wish i could see your work live and in person, so seeing the close ups is the next best thing :). Your painting skills are so wonderful.

Thanks CK for noticing all of the little nuances of the surface. It just doesn't show well in photographs and I try so hard to make the surface colouring unique to my pieces. Three shades of yellow, two greens, two oranges and black make up the head alone and I do layers over layers to achieve that surface. Wish it showed better!!

Sonya he has lots of pits and craters on the little head!! Thank you for stopping by!!

Hi Doris!! He has those long fingers to reach into candy dishes and containers to sort out his favorites! He is a pushover for Snickers and Almond Joys!!

Thank you for stopping by Kathren...smart girl for hiding your candy stash!! He is a sneaky little pooh!

Hi Carrie!! Thank you for the sweet compliment about my painting. There are days I just can't make it work, and I got lucky and had a really good 2 day period with this little boy.

Thank you all!

I am sure he has already found a new home with stars in their eyes.

You always make me smile Laurie...I am thrilled and in awe over your creations and leave feeling a bit inspired to try harder. It's not often that someone can open the door to another persons imagination like you do. I LOVE IT!!!! Pam

Hi Caroline and thank you so much for stopping by!!

Hi Kathy...I'm glad you find him adorable because when I finished him he reminded me of a dear family member, now deceased, that loved his candy, dry-roasted nuts and fig newtons and was skinny as, well, Little Dipper!!

Hey Pea, glad those little ears talked at you and thank you so much for the huge compliment...you silly girl!

Wow Pam, you just knocked me off of my chair with that compliment and coming from you with your big talent all I can say is thank you ...it means a lot to me hearing that!!

Well, this lady has to hit the hay. I have photographing to do in the morning and painting in the afternoon! Have a great evening all and thank you so much for stopping by and leaving me a note!
